Coachella Inspired Fashion
Since I'm not actually going to Coachella I can only day dream about it, but here's what I've thought up for what I'd wear to the festival. Most of the pieces are light and airy because I'd want as little amount of clothing on as possible if I were surrounded by thousands of people in the desert. Since crop tops are on-trend right now they are an easy go-to piece. They look really cute with high waisted shorts or a skirt that sits at your waist. Color-wise I would stick with creams, blushes, and baby blues, or anything else in the almost-white category. This keeps you cooler than wearing a black band tee and prevents sweat stains from being as noticeable. A cute backpack is a hassle free way of carrying your belongings around, plus an extra sweater for nighttime. To accessorize, metallic jewelry will add some polish to the look and a cute phone battery will be a lifesaver! For shoes I would go for whatever is the most comfortable, so something along the lines of Converse, Keds, or even ankle boots would work. Honestly, anything goes at Coachella and the focus is the music, so being comfortable is the most important point to hit. Pantone Color of the Year 2013
On December 6th, 2012, Pantone announced that the Color of 2013 would be #17-5641 Emerald. The deep green color contrasts from last year's Tangerine Tango, but I find it to be refreshing and lush. It takes you from the depths of the Amazon to the fields of Ireland.
Now that the new year has settled in and the stream of Fashion Weeks have kicked off, I'm seeing emerald everywhere. Clothes, accessories, interior decorations, etc. it has taken over. It just makes me want to sing "One Short Day" from Wicked!
How I would style it:
Since I'm still on my black-is-the-new-black kick, I'm planning on incorporating the jewel tone through accessorizing. A black base comprised of a peplum top, leggings, and pumps paired with chunky geometric emerald earrings or large bangle would make a statement.
If you feel like you can pull off the full body of the color, then go for it! An emerald pant (maybe play around with a pattern here) would look fab with a sheer cream blouse and some gold jewelry.
And don't forget about nail polish! A fresh mani with Sephora + Pantone Universe nail polish will give you the exact Emerald to add a pop to a look.

Grammy's Fashion Highlights
The Grammy's is the stars opportunity to really wow the crowd with unique and creative looks, and I must say this year didn't quite live up to the past. There were a lot of really gorgeous dresses, but they were just "blah" for the setting. Here's my breakdown of some of the most memorable looks. (By the way, if you didn't watch the Fashion Police Grammy's special, watch it asap. It was a particularly hilarious episode!)
Rihanna in Azzedine Alaia.
This was one of my favorites of the night. While the dress was simple for Rihanna's standards, the bright red and sheerness sexed it up.
Katy Perry in Gucci.
Katy obviously wears this dress very well. I really liked seeing her with normal colored hair and a sleeker look.
Beyoncé in Osman.
There's no denying that Queen B really missed the mark on this one. While, yes, it's different to do a pantsuit, and yes, it accentuated how... bootylicious she is, she could have done so much better.
Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford.
I'm absolutely mad for Justin and his suit and tie (and the song, too).
Carrie Underwood in Roberto Cavalli.
This is one of the looks where it's nice and pretty, but it just doesn't inspire any emotion. Plus, the 31 million dollar necklace seems a tad excessive.
Florence Welch in custom Givenchy.
I actually appreciate the creativity and process that went behind this dress, but the finished product is quite bizarre. It definitely channels a lizard-like look.
Taylor Swift in J. Mendel.
This dress stays true to Taylor's sweet style that everyone loves so much. I'm not crazy about the milkmaid braids with the dress, but it keeps the look young and sophisticated at the same time.
Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello.
I was so underwhelmed by this look that I can barely critique it. It's pretty much just two pieces of black fabric sewn halfway together... it would have looked much better if the slit had been a few inches higher to elongate the leg, not sever it.
Carly Rae Jepsen in Roberto Cavalli.
I am drawn to the dress, but I don't think that it really made Carly shine.
Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra.
I'm in love with this graphic (and very strategic) dress. Kelly won Fashion Police's and my Best Dressed award for the Grammys. She looks simply stunning!

There's an App For That: Five Fashionable Apps
In a world surrounded by smartphones and wi-fi, it's not difficult to give in to some pretty addicting apps. I've found some really useful, fun, and free fashion related ones to share with you.

I didn't really realize this until I went through all of them, but you will have to create an account for the apps I mention. It's really simple though, and some of them can connect to your Facebook.
Here are my top five that will feed your fashion addiction:
1) Wanelo- I just downloaded this one yesterday, but I'm already hooked. It is similar to Pinterest in the way that you save items to your own boards/collections (above right), but the best (and maybe worst) part is that you can buy everything you see.
2) Stylitics- This one is really useful for someone who plans out their outfits like me. You take pictures of your clothes (above center) and then you can track when you wear them (above right) and put together outfits for certain occasions.
3) Beautylish- Your go-to database for anything to do with beauty. From informational health related articles to clever DIY's and tons of makeup tutorials and product reviews in between, Beautylish can answer any cosmetic question you have.
4) Pose- An instagram for the fashionable. You can follow users with similar style to yourself and then save their looks to your collections (above right). If you really like someone's outfit, they will usually tag what brand and style their clothes are so you can go look it up. Plus, some items are shoppable straight from the app.
5) Gilt- I joined Gilt a few years ago via their website, so I was super excited when they came out with an app. Being able to shop their private sales on-the-go instead of chained to your computer is definitely better. The app even includes their Jetsetter and City pages.

Gift Guide: Fashion Literature
Since my Winter Break starts on Thursday I've had a generally less-demanding workload and have been able to do more blogging than I am normally able to! Yay! This Gift Guide comes to you in video form because I had so much to say and share about the books, so I thought it would be best to make my review into a video. Somehow I managed to film half an hour of me just talking about my books, so I had to majorly edit it and split it into two videos! What can I say... I'm an avid reader with a passion for fashion.

Trend Report: Peplum
I have some news for you straight from my B.P. Fashion Board meeting: Peplum is here to stay! The flirty and figure flattering silhouette will be sticking with us all the way into the 2013 spring/summer season. I actually haven't been able to commit to purchasing a peplum piece yet, but I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for one now.
Here are some ways that I enjoy peplum:
These two tops combine the peplum trend with the leopard print trend, which I love. The one from B.P. Nordstrom (left) is younger and flirtier, while the Topshop version (right) is more abstract, structured, and sophisticated. I'll take one of each, please!

I love the concept of the lace and peplum, but I think a different color than the dress above would be more seasonally appropriate. It would look lovely in oxblood or black for the holidays.

This look is so fresh and effortlessly chic. I especially like how the peplum is more structural with pleats, instead of a ruffle.
This skirt from Topshop is made out of "scuba" material so it gives the peplum more weight and body while creating really sleek lines down the skirt.

Gift Guide: Boots & Dupes
Boots are a must during the autumn/winter season, so naturally they make a wonderful gift! Upscale boots aren't very friendly to a budget, however, so I have put together some very promising alternatives to my favorite boots of the season. And yes, they are all black just because that is my personal preference.
1. Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" Bootie- $160, These boots are an easy way to achieve high-fashion. Project Runway Season 10 finalist, Fabio Costa, paired these with his collection for Fashion Week. I can just imagine all the ways to style these babies.
Dupe: Trouvé "Blakely" Bootie- $80
2. Frye "Lindsay Plate" Boots- $329, These are my ultimate sell-my-soul-to-the-devil-for-these-boots boots. Frye boots are the epitome of riding boots, always have and always will be. I particularly love these ones because of the clean lines, the simple, thin strap, and the decorative silver plate at the back.
Dupe: Franco Sarto Riding Boot- $200
3. Michael by Michael Kors "Lesley" Bootie- $200, Who doesn't need a pair of suede booties? These heightened beauties are simple, sophisticated, and versatile.
Dupe: DV by Dolce Vita "Dakoda" Bootie- $119
4. Acne "Pistol" Boots- $570, Acne's shoes have the perfect balance between a classic idea and ingenious style. Last year, their "Atacoma" wedges were spotted all over Tumblr and fashion blogs. I discovered the "Pistol" boots on Tumblr as well. Unfortunately, they come at a steep price. Fortunately I've found a fantastic dupe!
Dupe: Topshop "Ambush" Boots- $150 *These may be out-of-stock on topshop.com.
5. Hunter "Original Tall" Gloss Rain Boot- $135, The classic rain boots that you imagine wearing while jumping and splashing in puddles on lovely fall day... but practically, these boots are essential for a Washingtonian like me. The rainy days last most of the year, so these boots would definitely be worth the money!
Dupe: Sperry Top-Sider "Pelican Too" Rain Boot- $78
***The dupes are still pretty pricey, but I believe that quality is key. I would much rather splurge on a pair of boots that I know will last me through a few winter seasons, than save some money that I will end up spending later trying to save a cheap pair of boots.
