I am a fashion hungry student from the Pacific Northwest.
If you asked me to choose I would have fashion as my main course and beauty as my sides.
I have a classic and feminine sense of style, with a sprinkling of edgy here and there.
Recently, I began making YouTube videos about my style, beauty products and tutorials, and DIY projects.
I've spent a week the past two summers (2011-2012) taking workshops at the Fashion Institute of Technology. They've been the best experiences of my life so far.
I hate to admit it, but I spend a large quantity of my free time on the internet. Blogs, YouTube, and social networking sites are my daily haunts.
I've been listening to a lot of rap music lately, but if you asked me what my favorite kind of music is I would say alternative. Bon Iver, City and Colour, Ed Sheeran, are among my favorites. I despise country.
If I'm feeling lovesick I listen to Adele's first album, 19.
I'm stuck in a small town that is good for nothing other than being on a postcard.
I dream of New York City.
I don't own any sweatpants. "Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants." -Karl Lagerfeld
I'm a vegetarian.
Here are some of my Fashion PhiloSophie's:
- Quality is more important than quantity. That means investing in a $100 dress that is good quality is much better than buying four poor quality dresses for $25 each.
- Have the basics. These include skinny jeans, white t-shirts (I have at least 5), black t-shirts, black leggings, a jean jacket, a motorcycle jacket, ballet flats, a black handbag, a neutral handbag... Look to Nina Garcia's The 100 for more.
- Always overdress. Being dressed up will look more professional and it will boost your confidence.
- Stay connected. Keep up on the latest trends via social networking sites, magazines, apps, etc.
- Be inspired. If I'm ever stuck on what to wear I browse through lookbook.nu for ideas.
- Accessories are a must. If you don't have accessories, your outfit isn't complete.
- Educate yourself. Knowing the history or even just a little background information about a brand makes you appreciate it that much more.
- Always keep some mad money. You never know when you're going to find something that you really have to have.
- Make a list. Before going shopping make a list of the things you need and the things you want. You should purchase things to a 2:1 ratio of the two lists. Get the things you need first, then what you want.
- Have a style icon (or 10). Find some people that you can look to for style inspiration or advice for any occasion.
